about Jack and Helen Davis

Jack and Helen came to Madison in 1956, when Jack became owner and Executive Director of The Grove School. They developed it into a world-renowned residential treatment center and high school for emotionally disturbed children, drawing students, psychologists, and childcare experts from around the globe to Madison.

Later, they started Davis Realty as a venture dedicated to providing business and residential space in Madison. Over the years, both Jack and Helen devoted enormous energy and passion to the community. Jack served for 20 years as an elected member of the Board of Finance, being instrumental in the town’s historic purchase of the Surf Club property.

The two founded the Madison Sculpture Mile and championed arts in the community—for instance, as an anchor supporter of the annual July 4 concert on the Green and for support of the Madison Arts Cinemas. They were key contributors to the Chamber of Commerce, the Madison Historical Society, Graves House, the Scranton Memorial Library, and our schools. They spearheaded the founding of ABC, Madison Foundation, and Temple Beth Tikvah. Jack was the longest serving member in the history of the Madison Rotary Club.

Helen passed away in 2019, and Jack passed away in 2021. They have set a path of community service and giving for their three children, three daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
